Special Effects: George Romero's Land of the Dead

Favorite Scene Effect: In Land of the Dead my favorite scene was the headless corpse walking up to guy in the car. Finding out that he wasn't headless at all; this zombie flings his head forward by a loose string from behind and bites the man's neck (shoulder). I never seen anything like that before. To me it was spinetingling gorgeous. What a great effect; it had me really looking at that with a tear rolling down my cheek. That's one great effect that won't be forgotten for a long time in my book.

Remembering Stan Winston

When I heard of the passing of Stan Winston, the news was like hearing that the greatest of prehistoric dinosaurs has given up life and nowis never to return. Extinct from ever producing wonderful works like Terminator and Aliens and Jurassic Park and recently the movie The Incredible Hulk. It’s really endless of his work and which will be very much missed.

A protégé of Dick Smith, Special Effects Artist for the infamous movie The Exorcist, who is also tremendously talented and without Mr. Smith where would we be, "Dick is responsible for the state of the art in prosthetic makeup today," said special-effects whiz Rick Baker….

"Dick's work was so much better than theirs," says Baker, who won the first Best Makeup Oscar in 1982. "While everyone else was making masks from a single mold, Dick made these multiple pieces and layered them on the face. Today, that's the way everyone does it.
"It was his passion and love for the craft that made him the best. And unlike others in the early days, Dick was eager to share his methods and formulas with anyone who asked."
And that fine method went to Stan Winston, who turned out wonderful Special Effects because of good training and excellent direction, his creations tell us what a special figure Stan really was.

Stan Winston will be missed. R.I.P

Yeah for Special Effects!

Here, I have another blog called Lavel Wideman's Special Effects Corner, which will cater to the Horror Genre and its Special Effects which I always wanted to do; it's my favorite career in the world and will probably take it up even though I'm up at a certain age( my mother said "No, no, no. She was down on Horror and flung my Fangoria magazines out the window...so it's not my fault, okay?) but anyway it will talk about Special Effects in the horror movie business and others like action films. We don't want to leave them out, of course, with all the exploding cars, falling out of windows and then crashing to the ground, hard; so we are going to talk about all aspects of special effects.

I found this piece and many more like it at Myspace.com, which I also have a blog there but anyway this is my first post on it, and I'll keep it short. I hope you like this one.
